Southdown Makes Holiday Crackers
Leave it to the Southdown Primary School PTA to come up with an uplifting student activity at a special time of the year.
“My PTA facilitated a really nice community service project with all of the children here at Southdown,” Principal Michelle Marino said. Parent volunteers assisted as the youngsters created holiday “crackers” for delivery to local nursing homes.
“The crackers were made from cardboard rolls and filled with messages of holiday greetings, as well as sweet treats, and then wrapped in festive paper and tied with ribbons,” Mrs. Marino explained. “We made over 300 crackers. The Family Service League will be distributing them in time for the holidays.”
Parent Maria Connolly facilitated the event, with many fellow parent volunteers also pitching in to help in the cafeteria. “It was a heart-warming event,” Mrs. Marino said.
