Finley Falcon Club Rewards Excellence

The Finley Falcon club is still going strong, more than 27 months after it first debuted at the 675 student school. It’s an important piece of an incentive program that encourages students to work for excellence.

Finley Principal John Amato said students have been enthusiastic about being rewarded for academic achievement and good attendance and character. The program features Blue, Silver or White levels of achievement based upon set criteria.

The list of program rewards and incentives range from admission to evening events and tickets to school wide raffles to visits from the school’s mascot, the Finley Falcon on selected Fridays.

The last Friday of each marking period sees Falcon club members receiving something special from the Falcon. “Students who do not achieve a level during one marking period will have a chance to do so the following quarter,” Mr. Amato said. He has encouraged students not to be left out and to work hard to get into the Falcon club.

“Last Friday (Dec. 11) we had our raffle in each of the four lunch periods,” Mr. Amato said. “Students were issued raffle tickets based on their level of GPA. They earned either earned one, two or three tickets. The PTA chipped in some money for raffle prizes and the student activities fund picked up half. We had 15 prizes per lunch period. One of the favorites was the ‘make your own ginger bread house.’ It was the best one yet. The kids and teachers had a great time.”

Over the past 45 years, Finley has become known for its high-performing students, who have won county, state and even national honors in every academic discipline. Finley’s teachers have always included many of the state’s best.
