Four Earn Post-Season Boys’ Soccer Honors

Four Huntington boys’ soccer players earned post-season honors following a season that saw the Blue Devils finish with a 6-8 record.

Senior Chris Sandoval and junior Anthony Catarino were named All-Conference and senior Sal Russo and junior Christian Caballero were tapped for the All-League team. Russo was also named Academic All-County.

“Chris Sandoval will be missed,” said John Pagano, Huntington’s head coach. “He was a four-year starter who was an invaluable player.” The talented Sandoval was an imposing presence on defense.

Catarino scored five goals from his midfield position and Caballero, a powerful forward found the net four times. Sophomore Carlos Marquez notched five goals at forward. Junior E.J. Connell picked up three shutouts as the team’s goalkeeper.

The highlight of the season was the team’s three overtime victories. “Seventy-five percent of our games were decided by one goal or less,” said Pagano, who was assisted by Jason Suarez. “We need to win those games.”

With eight starters returning next fall, the Blue Devils will look to move significantly higher in the standings.
