Blue Devil Fencers Grab Medals
Two Blue Devil fencers captured medals last weekend at the Brentwood Holiday Tournament. The massive competition drew nearly 300 fencers from a dozen Long Island high schools. The event serves as the annual kick-off to the scholastic fencing season.
Huntington junior Olivia Weller captured a silver medal in women’s epee and sophomore Nicolas Maiarelli finished eighth in men’s foil.
Several other Blue Devils finished in the Top 20. Senior Daniel LoBasso was ninth in men’s epee, junior Mia Rienzo was 11th in women’s epee, senior Ian Coneys was 12th in men’s sabre, senior Lena Freed was 12th in women’s foil, junior Dylan Tuozzo was 16th in women’s sabre and senior Johanna Clifford was 19th in women’s epee.
The day offered Huntington fencers an opportunity to compete in men’s epee (senior Alexander Chisolm, 21st, junior John Ferraiolo, 25th, senior Tyler May, 38th, junior Sean Harkins, 39th); men’s foil (sophomore Bob Folan, 25th, junior Jordan Fairbanks, 32nd, sophomore Jason Chisolm, 41st); men’s sabre (junior Connor Purcell, 34th, senior Lief Drace, 36th, freshman Brent Flippini, 38th); women’s epee (senior Alanna Tieman, 26th), women’s foil (sophomore Alexandra Martinolich, 28th, junior Cody Jacobs, 34th, eighth grader Sibilla Maiarelli, 38th); and women’s sabre (freshman Joey Tuozzo, 29th, sophomore Holly Flores, 34th, junior Shayne Larkin, 47th).
