Adult Ed Program Registration on Tuesday, Sept. 10
A more than half-century tradition will continue when the Huntington School District’s adult education program will hold its fall semester registration on Tuesday, Sept. 10 in the Huntington High School lobby from 7-9 p.m. for a variety of interesting and informative courses, including eight new offerings. Mail-in registration will be accepted until classes begin.
Regular course fees are set at $15 for resident senior citizens (whenever space is available, except for those classes marked special fee or limited), $55 for other district residents and $65 for those living outside the Huntington School District. Fees can vary based on the specific course and the duration of the class. (One day seminars can run as little as $20 for residents.) Fall classes begin the week of Sept. 21.

The publication contains course descriptions, locations and room numbers and scheduling information. Typical classes run for an eight week period.
“It’s always a pleasure to offer a semester full of quality courses to district residents and those living in the general Huntington area,” Superintendent John J. Finello said. “We’re a community of lifelong learners and everyone is welcome to participate in our adult education program.”
Fall courses include Basic Ballroom Workshop, Basketball for Men, Beginner’s Italian, Golf/Beginners, Hatha Yoga, Intermediate Italian, Intermediate Spanish, Internet A to Z, Into to Computer Keyboarding, Introduction to Computers – Using Microsoft Office, Knitting, Learn and Experience Self-Healing, Microsoft Office Advanced, Painting, Preparation for Citizenship, Soccer for Men (indoor), Soccer for Women (indoor), Spanish for Beginners, Tai Chi Chi Kung and Vinyasa Yoga.
Seminars and Food for Thought offerings include Child Support and Child Custody Issues in a Divorce: What You Don’t Know Can Hurt You, Financial Strategies During a Job Transition, Friends & Families CPR and First Aid for Children, Getting Paid to Talk, Making Money with Your Voice, Getting Through a Volatile Market, How to Finance a College Education, How to Hire and Fire a Lawyer, Social Security Planning, The Fluid of Life, Ten Things You Should Know About Divorce in New York and Intellectual Property Law Basics – Patents, Trademarks and Copyrights.
There is also a two-night auto insurance reduction course sponsored by the National Traffic Safety Institute and courses offered through Western Suffolk BOCES, including Adult Basic Education (GED) and beginner, intermediate and advanced level classes in English as a Second Language.
Course and seminar sites include Huntington High School, J. Taylor Finley Middle School, Jefferson Primary School and Woodhull Intermediate School. Exact locations for individual offerings can be found in the program brochure.
The adult education program is self-sustaining. It is conducted primarily for adults in the community, but is open to those as young as 16 years of age wherever space exists, with the exception of basketball and where otherwise indicated.
