Drama Club Auditions Set for Fall Show

Summer vacation isn’t over yet, but Huntington High School drama club advisor Mike Schwendemann is gearing up for the fall production of “Stage Door” with an announcement that auditions for the show will begin Monday, Sept. 14.

Audition call-backs will be held on Sept. 15 and again on Sept. 16-17, if necessary. Rehearsals kick-off on Monday, Sept. 21 and will run for several hours each afternoon right up to opening night on Friday, Nov. 14 at 8 p.m. in the high school auditorium. The show will also be presented the following evening, Saturday, Nov. 15 at 8 p.m.

Mr. Schwendemann is excited about the fall production. “The scene is the New York City boarding house of Mrs. Orcutt, where the hopes and ambitions of 16 wanna-be actresses who have come there to pursue careers are revealed,” he said in describing the play. “The central plot has to do with courageous Terry Randall, who fights against discouragement for a position in the theatre. One of her fellow aspirants gives up in despair, one gets married and one goes into the movies, but Terry, with the help of idealistic David Kingsley, sticks to her guns.”

Recent Huntington drama club productions have featured outstanding acting and impressive set designs. The fall play will be held in the high school auditorium, which has been completely renovated, with new seats and carpeting, fresh paint, refinished woodwork and a new sound system.
