Two New Part-Time Science Teachers Come Aboard

Two new part-time science teachers are coming aboard in the Huntington School District after trustees approved appointments at last Monday night’s School Board meeting.

Christina Efaplomatides and Christopher Vitiello were approved to work during the 2009/10 school year. The pair was hired after a structured screening process and reference checks.

Ms. Efaplomatides will teach chemistry at Huntington High School. She graduated in May 2006 from Adelphi University with a B.S. degree in chemistry and earned an advanced teaching certificate in science education at Queens College this past May.

Ms. Efaplomatides completed her state student teaching requirements in the Sewanhaka school district last spring. District officials reviewed 20 applications and conducted four interviews before recommending Ms. Efaplomatides for appointment.

Mr. Vitiello will teach Earth science at J. Taylor Finley Middle School. He obtained an A.S. degree in physical science at Nassau Community College in December 2002 and earned a B.A. degree in environmental science at SUNY College at Oneonta in 2005. In December 2008, he graduated from Adelphi University with a M.A. in science education, 7-12.

District officials reviewed 25 applications and conducted six interviews before recommending Mr. Vitiello for appointment.
