Woodhull School Teacher Sings at Ducks Game
If Nicole Parrett had any degree of stage fright, it didn’t show as the Woodhull Intermediate School fourth grade teacher flawlessly sang the national anthem before a crowd of thousands at a recent Long Island Ducks game at Citibank Park in Central Islip.
“I auditioned for the LI Ducks two years ago, but did not get the gig,” Ms. Parrett said. “They have auditions every spring for approximately six games. This year, I auditioned April 4 and lucky me, I received a call. I got a game.”
The Huntington sang from a spot near home plate. “I have been singing my entire life,” she said. “My mother says I used to wander around singing jingles and making up songs all day long as a child. In high school, I was a member of the chamber chorus, SCMEA (Suffolk County Music Educators Assn.) and participated in the school musicals. Now, my musical side is expressed through my work with the Woodhull theater arts club and an occasional karaoke night with friends.”
The Ducks regularly sell out all 6,002 seats at Citibank Park and singing the national anthem there can be intimidating. “This was an unbelievable experience that I am not likely to ever forget,” Ms. Parrett said. “I was fortunate enough to have many families and friends from the Huntington community there to cheer me. I look forward to another chance to sing for the Ducks. For now, I have to wait until next spring.”
