Bosco Notches First Career Hat Trick
Angela Bosco’s three goals lifted the Huntington girls’ soccer team to its fifth win in seven games as the Blue Devils topped Walt Whitman last Saturday, 4-1. The team has won several close games this season and is receiving contributions from players up and down the field.
The performance against the Wildcats marked Bosco’s first high school career hat trick. Lauren Gerbavsits also scored a goal for Huntington, which put the ball in the net three times in the second half. Matte Scully record two assists and Meredith McCourt added another. Lori Messina made six stops in goal.
Head coach John Walsh and assistant coach Karen Fischer have the Blue Devils playing with enthusiasm and an obvious sense of purpose as Huntington hopes not only to qualify for the post-season, but make a splash in the playoffs.
In a 3-0 win at Comsewogue, the Blue Devils received goals from Danielle Catanese, Aliyah Cohen and Matte Scully. Bosco (two) and Scully combined for three assists. Messina made seven saves in goal.
Against Eastport-South Manor, Scully scored on a 30-yard rocket off a pass from Emma Hayes-Hurley with less than 12 minutes remaining in the game to give the Blue Devils a 1-0 victory. Messina stopped nine shots in goal.
A pair of second half goals by Cohen (off a pass from Michaela Brown) and Christina Badalementi helped Huntington move past Kings Park, 2-1. Messina came up big again in goal, with nine saves.
In a 2-1 win over Half Hollow Hills West, the Blue Devils received goals from Scully and Gerbavsits. Bosco chipped in with an assist. Messina recorded seven saves.
As the season rolls on and Huntington picks up its intensity, players are feeding off each other and responding to Walsh’s fine tuning. The coach has plenty of experience building a championship squad and has a history of getting the most out of his team.
