STAR Rebate Checks Coming to Huntington School District Residents

Huntington School District property owners that qualify for the 2008 Middle Class STAR program rebate can expect to receive a check from New York State in late October.

According to the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance’s Online Tax Center (http://www.tax.state.ny.us/star/2008/default.htm), rebate checks will be mailed to Huntington School District taxpayers the week of October 20. Checks will be automatically mailed to eligible Basic and Enhanced STAR recipients, along with applications to property owners who need to apply for the 2008 program.

According to the state website, senior citizen property owners in the Huntington School District who qualify for the Enhanced STAR program will get a rebate check of $620.72. The rebate for other district resident property owners and their spouses with 2006 combined incomes of up to $120,000 will be $542.68. Those with a combined income over $120,000 and up to $175,000 will see a rebate of $407.01 and those with combined incomes over $175,000 and up to $250,000 will get a check for $271.34. Those with an income over $250,000 will not receive a check from the program.

The rebate for Enhanced STAR recipients is about 40 percent higher than last year. Any rebate check is in addition to property tax relief homeowners already receive through the STAR program.

For more information about STAR program eligibility contact Town of Huntington Assessor Bryan J. Monaghan at 351-3226 or assessor@town.huntington.ny.us.
