A Perfect Opening for Jack Abrams School

The newly minted Jack Abrams Intermediate School is already making its first year something special, as students returned to school and hit the ground running.  “Most of our families visited our school on September 2nd and met their new teacher,” Principal Mary Stokkers said.  “There was such enthusiasm and excitement seeing old friends and meeting new ones.”

Last Tuesday afternoon a festive ceremony was held to formally commemorate the renaming of Huntington Intermediate School in honor of longtime district teacher, principal and School Heritage Museum founder and curator Jack Abrams. The event included a sign unveiling and ribbon cutting, followed by a reception hosted by the PTA in the courtyard.

“It was an honor to be the principal at the dedication ceremony for Jack,” Mrs. Stokkers said.  “Many of my parents and teachers had Jack when they were in school and each one told a story of how he touched their lives”

Jack Abrams School opened smoothly, Mrs. Stokkers said.  “Our new dean, Scott Armyn greeted the parents and students alongside me. Our staff had each classroom and hallway decorated with welcome signs. By the end of the day we felt like we had never left. Our new fourth graders took tours and left with smiles on their faces.”
