Woodhull Social Helps Students Make New Friends

An after school get-together at Woodhull Intermediate School drew about 140 students for games, food and fun.  It was sponsored by the PTA and meant to help fourth graders meet classmates and build friendships.

The social was organized by parents Laurene Napurano, Lorraine Moya and Toniann Mangan.  For one glorious hour the boys and girls in attendance participated in an interesting backpack scavenger hunt and bingo in the gym and enjoyed snacks and refreshments in the cafeteria

Parents organized students into groups for the activities. “This way we mixed up all the children from each class so they got to meet new kids from all the classes,” explained Ms. Napurano.  “We had refreshments and all was a success thanks to all the parent volunteers.”

“We bring our fourth graders together as a way to merge our incoming Southdown and Jefferson school students into the Woodhull community,” Principal Kenneth A. Card, Jr. said.

Woodhull enrolls more than 500 students spread across grades 4-6.  Dr. Card provides faculty, staff and students with academic and co-curricular activity leadership.  The one-story school offers students with an exceptionally broad and thorough education.

Parents have a long history of supporting and enhancing the school program.  Woodhull has always featured an active PTA that frequently organizes family activities. The most recent social has helped the current school year get off to a successful start.
