New Fencing Installed at Southdown and Washington Schools

Sections of new fencing have been installed at Southdown and Washington primary schools.  Funds for the work came from the Huntington School District’s maintenance repair budget.

The district replaced aging in-ground oil storage tanks at each of the schools last summer.  The work involved removing sidewalk and pavement areas in the front of the buildings, excavating the old tanks and installing new 8,000 gallon units.

In this same area at each school there was fencing that surrounded a stairway leading down the boiler room.  Those fences were 54 years old and deteriorating with rust.  They have now been replaced with attractive modern chain link fences enshrouded with a black rubber coating.

At Washington School, the original softball field backstop, which was also badly deteriorated, was removed and replaced with a large new unit.  Students are already enjoying the field.

“We identified a need and moved forward with the new fencing once the funds were in place,” said Al White, operations supervisor for the district.  “We like to keep all of our facilities in tip-top condition.”
