Family Service League Asks Community for Help
The Family Service League is one of the little gems in the Huntington community. The group is busy preparing for its annual holiday gift boutique program – and it needs the help of local folks to make the initiative successful. The boutique will be co-hosted by the Tri Community and Youth Agency.
The FSL is seeking donations of new unwrapped toys and gift cards for children ranging from newborns through 13 years of age. Financial donations and new wrapping paper are also being sought. Each year the FSL services the needs of hundreds of families residing in the Huntington School District.
“This very special program gives parents who are struggling financially the opportunity to choose two new unwrapped gifts for each of their children,” according to brochure distributed by the FSL. “Parents are invited to shop at no cost to them and are given the pleasure of presenting gifts that they have chosen to their children.”
The holiday shopping program will begin on Dec. 17. Donations must be made by Dec. 15 so workers can make final arrangements for the boutique. The FSL and the Tri-CYA has worked together on the event since its inception.
Local groups are being encouraged to hold toy drives or erect “giving trees” and then donate the items collected to the FSL. It is anticipated that over 3,000 gifts will be needed this year. Gift cards in the amount of $20 are also encouraged to stores such as Target, Modell’s, Old Navy, K-Mart and Toys-R-Us.
Community members who are at least 18 years old and who are interested in serving as a volunteer gift wrapper at the boutique should contact Patty Mahder at 424-1094 or pcmod63@optonline.net.
Items can be dropped off at the Family Service League’s Huntington office located at 790 Park Avenue, just south of Pulaski Road. For more information, call the FSL at 427-3700.
