Larkin Accepts Scholarship to Marist College

Huntington swimmer Kaitlyn Larkin has accepted a scholarship to Marist College, signing an NCAA Division I letter of intent outlining the terms of the financial grant.

“I chose Marist after visiting several other colleges and meeting swim teams and coaches, because they offered a great combination of athletics and education,” Larkin said. “The location was great, the campus is beautiful and I have to say the head coach from Marist reminded very much of my club coach John Pisano, who has been a very influential person in my life and for whom I have been swimming with for at least ten years.”

“Kaitlyn has been a great asset to our girls’ swimming program,” said Georgia D. McCarthy, Huntington director of athletics.  “She is a powerful swimmer and a tough competitor. Throughout the years, Kaitlyn has been a true leader on the varsity swim team and has always motivated and supported her teammates.”

Larkin has led the Blue Devil swimming team for years and earned All-State honors last year.  She is headed back to the state championships this weekend in Buffalo after qualifying in two events.

“Kaitlyn is a student that has been so dedicated and has worked so hard,” said Lynn Perzeszty, Huntington’s head swimming coach.  “She has such a motivational spirit and has become so successful. This happened not only because of her hard work, but because of her strong, warm and supportive personality.”

“I plan to major in sports marketing and I'm hoping to, of course, get a personal best time, but more than anything leave my mark at Huntington as an All-American varsity swimmer,” Larkin said. “I hit the consideration time and I'm so close. I did tie the county record at the state qualifying meet.  It was very exciting, but I would have loved to break it!”

Perzeszty said that for Larkin, the scholarship means “fulfilling her dream and her motivation for others to follow them in the future.”

“I am so excited that Katy is continuing her academic and athletic career at Marist,” Mrs. McCarthy said.  “All of her hard work has paid off and Marist has recognized that by giving her a scholarship.”

According to its website, Marist was founded in 1929 and “overlooks the Hudson River in Poughkeepsie, New York, midway between New York City and Albany, the state capital.”  The main campus is home to 5,000 students and consists of 180 acres along the Hudson’s eastern shore.
