Keeping Huntington High School Sparkling

Ranging from renovated chemistry labs to a new roof over the auditorium and the reconstruction of a deteriorating exterior wall along the rear of the building, Huntington High School is getting the level of attention it needs after 50 years of service to the community.

Plans have also been developed to erect a security guard booth to enhance on-site safety, reconstruct sidewalks and curbs, roadways and parking lots, replace hallway student lockers and the freight elevator and install folding curtains in the gymnasium in place of the current folding partitions.

There are also plans to perform asbestos abatement work in the boiler room, make renovations to room 109 and replace stage wiring.

Several other projects have been identified for future years.  These include installing air conditioning in the library, replacing the building’s security system and asbestos floor tile, installing smoke doors in the corridor along the auditorium and installing a new public address system.

“Huntington High School is utilized from early morning hour to late at night,” Superintendent John J. Finello said.  “It is used for regular day classes, tutoring, clubs, athletic teams, concerts and fairs, the adult education program and countless community gatherings.  We need to continue with our aggressive campaign of maintenance, repair and renovation to keep the building in fine working order.”
