Huntington School Briefs


Joe Leavy is a man of ideas.  Huntington’s director of humanities is always thinking.  His latest idea is to build a mock courtroom at Huntington High School for the social studies department’s use.  He would like to utilize seats from the soon-to-be demolished Shea and/or Yankee stadiums for the jury box.  Mr. Leavy said he intends to contact the two organizations to determine if they would be willing to donate the chairs to the district.



Huntington High School student Mira Gutoff finished in third place in the Nassau Community College honors program monologue competition.  This year’s theme was “Looking Back 100 Years, Where are We Now?”  Ms. Gutoff performed a monologue from Sunset Boulevard, highlighting how the “talkies” were ruining Hollywood.

 

Participants were required to present a monologue of no more than two minutes running time before a panel of NCC theatre department faculty judges.



A retirement party is planned for Flower Hill Primary School teacher Noel Harper on Wednesday, June 16 from 4 – 8 p.m. at the Thatched Cottage in Centerport.  Tickets are priced at $60 and include light hor d’oeuvres, a buffet dinner, dessert, gratuities and gifts.  For more information or to purchase a ticket, contact Flower Hill teachers Patty Persichilli or Linda Cirillo at 673-2050 during regular school hours.



The Huntington Intermediate School PTA is making plans for next year.  The group wants have an inclusive and diverse Executive Board.  All positions are open.  Those interested in serving in some capacity are encouraged to call Melissa Ryan at 673-4521.



The Huntington School District’s annual art show is scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, May 20-21 from 7:30 – 9 p.m. in Louis D. Giani Gymnasium.  The show, which is open to the public, will feature outstanding student in all art areas.  Admission is free.  Each year visitors to the show are amazed at the quality of the work displayed.



Flower Hill Primary School’s International Night is scheduled for Thursday, May 8 at 7 p.m.  For more information call the school at 673-2050.



The annual Memorial Day parade is slated for Monday, May 26 at 11 a.m.  The parade route will go through Huntington Village.  Marching bands from Huntington High School and J. Taylor Finley Middle School will perform.



The Huntington School District will celebrate National School Nurses’ Day on Wednesday, May 7.  “We appreciate all the work our school nurses do each day,” Huntington Superintendent John J. Finello said.



Dual Language Family Night will be held at Huntington High School on Friday, May 30 from 6-8 p.m.  Families participating in the Huntington School District’s dual language program are invited to attend.
