Huntington School Briefs
Huntington High School students Stephanie Chang, Julien Feldman, Virginia Johnson, Ryan Loscalzo and Tiffany Sorenson participated in the Brookhaven National Lab bridge competition. Ms. Sorenson’s placed 24th out of over 200 entries from across Long Island.
The top 15 bridge builders from Huntington High School’s recent Trilogy Night were eligible to enter the prestigious contest. Complete results will be posted on the BNL website at http://www.bnl.gov/education/contests/bridge/default.asp.
The Huntington High School Key club has been collecting new and unused pajamas for children in need. The goal is to collect 1,000 pairs in sizes to fit infants, children and teens. A box was placed in the lobby to serve as the collection point.
Members of the New York Islanders hockey team came to Huntington Intermediate School and spoke with students about the value of teamwork. The youngsters were reminded of the importance of working together. The informative assembly included a video presentation and various interactive elements with lots of student participation.
Huntington High School student Shaqueena Watkins was recently recognized over the school’s public address system for being first on the scene of a fire at a neighbor’s property and making “that important phone call getting the fire department there in a matter of minutes,” teacher Suzie Biagi said.
This year’s Woodhull Intermediate School Variety Show included dancing, singing and individual performances. In all, about 30 acts took to the stage. Students enjoying rehearsing and performing and their parents and family members took plenty of photos of videos.
Huntington High School’s Math Honor Society hosted a pie baking contest to help celebrate Pi day. Pies were judged in a variety of categories, including most creative, best tasting and best decoration. Teacher Doris Quintilian helped coordinate the event with society members.
The Huntington High School Key club has organized its second blood drive of the year for Friday, April 4. Call the main office at 673-2001 for more information.
The Huntington High School video club is selling DVDs of various school events, such as the Hairathon, Poetry Café and the Black History Month celebration. DVDs are priced at $5.
The Huntington High School National Honor Society recently sponsored a food drive. The group realized that after the holiday season, donations dramatically decrease leading to food bank shortages. Non-perishable items were collected in the main lobby of the school.
