Huntington School Briefs


The Huntington School Board has approved the annual sixth grade trip to the Greenkill Outdoor Environmental Education Center in Huguenot, New York.  Woodhull Intermediate School students will leave April 1 and return April 4.  Huntington Intermediate School students will leave on April 8 and return April 11.  Teachers Keith Meyers and Allison Von Vange are coordinating the trip.



The J. Taylor Finley Middle School honors concert is scheduled for Thursday, April 17 in the Huntington High School auditorium at 7:30 p.m.  All community members are invited to attend.



There will be a meeting for the parents of children in the Huntington School District’s dual language program on Tuesday April 15 at Jefferson Primary School from 6-7 p.m.



The Huntington High School Spring College Fair is scheduled for Tuesday, April 15 at 7 p.m.  The fair has traditionally attracted as many as 100 colleges and universities.  Representatives of the schools will be on hand to answer questions from students and parents and distribute materials, including applications.  All are invited to attend this free event.  Contact college counselor Bernadette Walsh at 673-2131 or bwalsh@hufsd.edu for more information.



The final numbers are in on the Huntington Hairathon.  The event benefited the non-profit Locks of Love organization, which provides disadvantaged children under age 18 suffering from long-term hair loss due to any diagnosis, with a custom, vacuum-fitted hairpiece made entirely from human hair. The hair donated at the Huntington Hairathon will be used to make 23 wigs.  Huntington students and staff also raised $1,516.  “All monies will go to the construction costs of the wigs,” teacher Suzie Biagi said.



Huntington High School seniors have announced receiving additional college acceptance letters.  The students include Samantha Hofsiss (Alfred Univ.), Jonathan Correll (Cornell Univ.), Victoria Shannon (Fairfield Univ., Stonehill College), Nelson Maldonado (Hofstra Univ.), Jose Vasquez (Johnson & Wales Univ.), Elizabeth Polacek (Lesley Univ.), Allyson Nevins (Salve Regina Univ.), Thomas Gunton (St. Joseph’s Univ., Temple Univ.), Gregory Everitt (Stonehill College), Jason Reyes (SUNY Alfred), Derrick Northcote (SUNY Oneonta), Alex Pavelka (Towson State Univ.) and Madeleine Jensen (Univ. of Rochester).



The Huntington High School stage crew, under the direction of state crew manager Kenneth Gilbert, began constructing the set for the spring drama club production of “Crazy for You” last Saturday at 12 noon.  The show will be a musical.  Performances are scheduled for 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, April 4-5 as well as a 2 p.m. Saturday matinee, all in the high school auditorium.
