Hunt is on for Science Director
The Huntington School District is on the hunt for a director of science after current director Kenneth Graham decided to return to the Long Beach City School District at the end of the school year.
“The district seeks a highly motivated individual with the ability to lead and be responsible for the overall supervision and effectiveness of the science program, K-12,” according to the Huntington job posting for the position. Like other directors, the science director will report to the assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction.
Mr. Graham is finishing his first year in Huntington. He came to the district from Long Beach where he had worked as a teacher, athletic coach and science department administrator. He will return to serve as Long Beach’s director of science.
“Ken did wonderful work with us during his time in Huntington,” Superintendent John J. Finello said. “He helped make an already strong program even stronger. We wish him the very best of luck.”
The new science director will be responsible for working cooperatively with administrators, teachers and support staff, supervision and evaluation of all district science staff, interviewing and recommending prospective teachers as openings occur, developing, implementing and monitoring science curriculum and programs in conjunction with state guidelines and district priorities, development of annual department objectives, analyzing student achievement data and preparation of reports, orientation of new staff, staff development, scheduling, testing and after school science activities, purchasing, distribution, maintenance and storage of materials and equipment, department meetings, coordinating science department activities with those of other departments and working with students and parents as needed.
The deadline for applications is June 12.
