No Stopping Blue Devil Boys’ Winter Track

The depths of winter might be approaching, but the Huntington boys’ winter track team is getting hot, with continued strong performances under rookie coach Ronald Wilson at area competitions.

At the Suffolk Winter Relays, Quillian Respass, Josh Daves and Emmanuel Dume earned gold medals in the 3x55m dash, crossing the finish line in 21.26 seconds. Those same three speedsters teamed up with Jake Gayle for a first place showing in the 4x200m relay, besting strong squads from Middle Country, Bellport, Riverhead, Harborfields and Longwood, among others. The Blue Devil contingent nipped Middle Country, 1:38.1 to 1:38.4.

Two days later, Huntington competed in the Freshmen/Sophomore Classic and Eric Szilagy grabbed a medal in the triple jump with a leap of 35’5 to place third out of 40 competitors. James Okula and Matt Curley continued to show improvement with mile run times of 5:33 and 5:41, respectively. Stevenson Gabriel also improved in the 600m dash, finishing in 1:40.
