Huntington Foundation Counts Down to Annual Gala
The Huntington Foundation for Excellence in Education’s 15th annual Reach for the Stars gala is set for Friday, January 25 at the elegant Woodlands estate on Southwoods Road in Woodbury. Proceeds from the event will fund the Foundation’s efforts to enhance education, the arts and athletics in the Huntington School District.
Since its inception, the Foundation has funded about three quarters-of-a-million dollars in educational grants in the district. At this year’s gala, the Foundation will honor Dr. Vicki Mingin with the group’s Spirit Award in recognition of her efforts over her professional career to enhance the educational experience of Huntington students and send them off with the skills they need to succeed.
From humble beginnings, Dr. Mingin has risen through the ranks of the Huntington School District to assume her present position as executive director of special education and student support programs. Few can come close to matching her long involvement in the district she loves and is so closely identified with in professional circles.
Foundation President Mark Doyle believes the January 25 gala will be special. The evening will consist of a sumptuous pre-dinner hour, music, dancing, hot dinner, raffles, a live auction and so much more. Foundation volunteers have secured hundreds of items for raffles, silent auctions and the post-dinner live auction segment.
Donated items run the gamut, from extravagant trips, autographed memorabilia, high quality goods and artwork to personal services, dinners, shows, and other spectacular pieces.
“The evening promises to be one of celebration for all those who believe in and support the mission of the Huntington School District and public education,” Superintendent John J. Finello said. “The Huntington Foundation has helped us stay on the cutting edge of innovation and has helped us provide our students with the finest education possible.”
The contributions of donors and local businesses and the support of individuals, combined with the unending work of Foundation members continues to allow for ground breaking educational initiatives in all eight school buildings in the district.
An invitation to the gala, donation forms and additional information can be located by visiting the Huntington Foundation’s web page at www.hufsd.edu (click on School Community, then Huntington Foundation, then “forms and files”) or by contacting Mr. Doyle at (516) 551-8055 or at Doyle@vehifax.net.
