It’s a Wrap for Jefferson Custodian Don Prisco
A 25-year career in the Huntington School District came to an end for Jefferson Primary School head custodian Don Prisco in grand fashion. Carrying out his duties until his final minutes on the job, the veteran was surrounded by appreciative students and staff who gave him a nice sendoff.
Mr. Prisco spent his last day installing new doorknobs, checking heating equipment, keeping the hallways and cafeteria spotless and responding to an endless string of requests before walking off into retirement.
A group of third grade students peppered Mr. Prisco with questions during his last hours at Jefferson. He told the youngsters that the best part of his job was being around all the kids at school. What was the worst part of the job? Staying on top of the mess created by more than 300 children in one location and the clean-up required when a student got sick at school.
“Don was a valued member of our department,” Operations Supervisor Alvin White said. “He worked well with faculty and students and took pride in his job. We wish him a long and happy retirement.”
In retirement Mr. Prisco plans to play a lot of golf, pursue business interests and dote on his four grandchildren, including being a babysitter for them when he’s needed. He’ll also have more time to ride his cherished jade green Harley Davidson.
Mr. Prisco said he was both “excited and sad” to leave Jefferson and officially retire. Teachers and staff made sure to stop by and wish the longtime district employee well. “We wish Mr. Prisco much happiness and all the best in his retirement,” teacher assistant Bobbi Waller said. “We will miss him.”
