Booster Club Battles Misconceptions
The Huntington Booster Club is battling the misconception that it only supports the football and basketball programs. Nothing could be further from the truth, according to its officers. The club supports every team at both J. Taylor Finley Middle School and Huntington High School.
“We have heard that some people mistakenly believe that we are really geared toward only football and basketball,” Booster Club President Barbara Cutrone said. “That’s totally wrong. Even many of the officers have children in other sport programs.”
Since its reconstitution last year, the Booster Club has become an energetic force, promoting and supporting the Huntington athletic program by selling refreshments at sporting events, sponsoring summer athletic camps and backing numerous initiatives, including the purchase of new equipment and raising funds for annual scholarships.
Last fall the Booster Club held its first golf outing and dinner at the Crab Meadow Golf Course in Northport. The inaugural event, which honored Blue Devil great Charlie Forte, raised thousands of dollars. Proceeds will fund a soon-to-be announced grant program, which will allow coaches to apply for additional financial support to enhance Huntington teams.
“Every sport program will be eligible for the grant program,” Booster Club Secretary Carol Scully said. Mrs. Scully’s own children participate in the soccer, basketball and lacrosse programs. “The Booster Club is for everyone. We support everyone.”
The annual family Booster Club membership fee is $20. Checks made payable to Huntington Booster Club, Inc., can be sent to the club at P.O. 2294, Huntington, New York 11743. (Include name, address, phone number, e-mail address, etc.) Membership does not require volunteering in any capacity. However, members are welcome to become involved in the organization.
Membership forms can be downloaded from the Huntington School District’s website (www.hufsd.edu.) Click on the Athletics link and then click on the Booster Club link to find the form.
