It’s all Huntington – Again!
Any concern that the Huntington girls’ basketball team might suffer a letdown following the biggest win of the season quickly evaporated as the Blue Devils scored at a blistering clip in the first quarter, besting League V foe Islip last Saturday afternoon, 57-34.
Huntington was coming off an exciting come-from-behind 48-42 victory over defending county champion Harborfields and head coach Brad Reminick worked to make sure that his players would be ready, especially since Islip had won its first three league games of the season.
Kerry Hicks led the scoring parade with 15 points and teammate Maria Marascia added 11 more. The Blue Devils led 24-6 after one quarter and were up 43-10 at halftime. The game saw ten different Huntington players score, including five three-point baskets.
“The kids really came out on fire,” Reminick said. “We made our first eight or nine shots. Everyone was really ready to play. It was great to get the whole team on the court for an extended amount of time.”
With back-to-back wins, the Blue Devils have taken their game to a new level after some uneven stretches in early non-league action. “We are starting to click,” Reminick said. “This is another big week for us. We have to keep picking it up and keep playing hard.”
Blue Devil Notes: Casey Scully and Meredith McCourt scored seven points each, respectively . . . . The victory was Reminick’s 48th as Huntington’s varsity coach . . . Julie Forster and Matte Scully scored four points apiece and Cecilia Reyes added three more . . . Lauren Visbal, Liz Northcote and Lisa Marino each scored two points, respectively.
