Burnett Signs College Lacrosse Letter of Intent
Huntington High School senior Molly Burnett has signed her name to an NCAA letter of intent, committing her to attend Monmouth College where she will play on the women’s lacrosse team on a scholarship.
Burnett, who has earned several Scholar Athlete Awards, is an accomplished player who has started on defense for the Blue Devils throughout her high school career. She has also played with the elite Long Island Yellow Jackets lacrosse program, traveling throughout the country.
“Molly is a strong lacrosse player who will be a great contributor to Monmouth's program,” said Georgia D. McCarthy, Huntington’s director of athletics. “She has the ability to be an extremely competitive college player and I know that Monmouth has a strong program and she will fit in well there.”
Burnett, who is a member of Huntington’s Art Honor Society, won All-League honors last fall for the Blue Devil girls’ soccer team and is a member of the fencing team this winter, but her future focus is clearly set on lacrosse.
“Molly is a strong, heads-up defensive player who worked hard to overcome a knee injury,” said Karen Fischer, who coached Burnett on the Blue Devil lacrosse team. “She was a defensive asset during our run for last year’s county championship. Monmouth will benefit from her game sense, skill and strength.”
Monmouth, located in West Long Branch, New Jersey, enrolls about 4,500 students and competes in NCAA Division I. The 156-acre campus, which contains 56 buildings, is located five minutes from the Atlantic Ocean. The Hawks’ lacrosse team is coming off its second consecutive Northeast Conference championship
