Big Top Stage Circus Coming to Huntington
The National Circus Project’s Big Top Stage Circus is coming to Huntington High School on Sun. Jan. 27 for an afternoon of what promises to be exhilarating fun for children and adults of all ages. Tickets are available at the door for $10.
The National Circus Project has entertained audiences across the country with a special blend of exciting and instructional performances. Pre-show activities kick-off at 1 p.m. and the show begins at 2 p.m.
The event is a fundraiser for the Huntington School District Arts-in-Education program, which has become an integral part of the educational experience at all grade levels in the district. The Arts-in-Education Committee researches and plans both cultural arts and exploratory programs that are linked directly to core curriculum concepts and skills. Students participate in a wide range of experiences, from seeing their own pieces of creative writing performed by professional actors and chatting with famous authors to working with real scientists and “meeting” characters from American history.
The Arts-in-Education program presents programs designed to enhance the study of children’s literature, the humanities, mathematics, science, fine and performing arts, health and character education. Students are also provided opportunities to visit and learn about the unique historical sites and organizations throughout Huntington. There is a special emphasis on striving to provide programs for single grade levels that connect with specific curriculum objectives.
The afternoon, which marks the AIE program’s third annual fundraising event, will include face-painting popcorn, balloons, juggling by clowns, an opportunity to meet some of the performers and the usual fun associated with a visit to the circus. Proceeds from the event will supplement other Arts-in-Education funding to meet annual programming costs.
