College Financial Aid Night Set for Jan. 10 at Huntington High School

The Huntington High School College Center is sponsoring a special Financial Aid Night for the parents of seniors on  Thurs. Jan. 10 at 6:30 p.m.  Attendance at the event is strongly encouraged.

The evening will include presentations by representatives of the New York State Attorney General’s office on student leading and the rights of borrowers and by local college financial aid counselors on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), student loan options and scholarships.

Familiarity with the FAFSA form is especially important, according to school officials, since it forms the basis for need-based federal financial aid as well as non-need based federally backed student loans and is required when applying for state level need-based or merit aid.

The Huntington College Center has already processed more than 650 college applications for members of this year’s senior class and acceptance letters have begun arriving in the mail.  School officials said that several colleges are scheduled to conduct on-site admission sessions at Huntington High School in coming weeks for seniors who have not yet applied.  Students will be able to meet with admission counselors and have their applications reviewed, many free of charge.  Participating colleges include Adelphi University, Dowling College, Molloy College, St. John’s University, St. Joseph’s College, and SUNY Farmingdale.

For more information about Financial Aid Night or College Center related programs call Huntington college counselor Bernadette Walsh at 673-2131 or e-mail her at bwalsh@hufsd.edu.
