New Flower Hill Playground Debuts

It’s cold outside, but that hasn’t stopped Flower Hill Primary School students from enjoying their new playground.  The youngsters have loved every opportunity to climb and play on an around the modern equipment, which opened for use last month.

Flower Hill’s shared decision making team made the decision last year to seek approval for updated playground equipment.  The upgraded playground is located on the southwest side of the school, adjacent to the kindergarten classrooms, right off Flower Hill Road.

The new equipment meets current safety standards and is expected to last for many years, providing hours-upon-hours of enjoyment for Flower Hill students who attend the school each year.  The aging and outdated playground that was removed to make way for the modern structure was two decades old and was no longer able to meet the needs of primary school children.

“Our students are so energetic and they need time at recess to climb, run and jump,” Principal Marlon Small said.  “The new playground equipment is already very popular and will be put to good use for years to come.”

Fairmont Archer was awarded the bid for the project. The Flower Hill School community raised almost $20,000 for the initiative through various ventures.  The Huntington School District kicked in another $5,500.  In addition to new equipment, the project included a new surface, too.
