Flower Hill School Swaps Thousands of Books

Flower Hill Primary School’s 10th annual book swap might have been the most successful one yet.  Families donated over 3,000 books, enough to allow students in every grade level to find plenty of titles to interest them.

Excited youngsters carried their “new” books home with them to read.  Many couldn’t even wait that long, instead cracking books open in school and starting to enjoy the benefits of the swap right way.

After being dropped off, the books were sorted by parent volunteers and arranged based on their appropriateness for specific grade levels.  Mountains of books made jaws drop and eyes enlarge.  Kindergarten and first grade students were able to chose up to 10 books each.  Second and third graders selected as many as four books to take home with them.

Flower Hill librarian Denise Smith chipped in, too, donating books, library space and lots of time to the project.  She also created stickers and provided bookmarks for students.  Teacher assistant Lisa Doherty also assisted event chairpersons Karen Cronin and Kim Burton with her time and assorted resources.

Parent volunteers included Delphine Barron, Laurie Burke, Amy Lokos, Nancy Reh, Sue Riley, Tara Sage, Susan Schmidt, Erin Sclafani, Allison Sgrizzi, Kathy Shea, Sue Simpson and Tracy Tucker.  Event chairs were parents Karen Cronin and Kim Burton.
