Huntington School Board Notes
Huntington School Board members accepted the resignation of Huntington Intermediate School teacher assistant David Zimmerman, effective Feb. 8.
Teacher Christina Droskoski’s tenure date was changed to Sept. 25, 2009 due to an unpaid leave of absence.
Jessie Brennan was approved to work as a substitute in the Southdown Primary School ELA and math test prep programs for approximately three hours per week on an as-needed basis. She will be paid $45.77 per hour. The stipend is funded by a grant.
School psychologist Julissa Garris was approved for additional work not to exceed six days, related to kindergarten registration. She will be paid $443.55 per diem.
Washington Primary School special education teacher Debbie Foster was approved to work up to 30 hours at $45.77 per hour to provide parent counseling and training for a student’s parent, effective Feb. 12.
Bernadette Walsh ($3,000), Marcy Rhodes ($6,250) and Camille DeCanio ($6,250) were appointed VATEA grant advisors for the 2007-08 school year.
Michael Board, Luigi Capizzano and Eric Twardy were approved to work as substitutes at the per diem rate of $90 on an as-needed basis.
Chris Scarnato was appointed stage crew advisor at J. Taylor Finley Middle School.
Trustees accepted a donation from Assistant Superintendent Joseph Giani of a Canon 35mm camera with accessories and a black leather case.
Trustees also accepted a donation from the Special Education PTA of a Canon DVD camcorder with an estimated value of $400 for use by the Friendship club.
Trustees approved numerous budget transfers from one account to another to cover costs associated with locked file cabinet from the transportation department ($100), science supplies ($2,500), Mathletes-related transportation ($200), adapters for new DVD players at Huntington Intermediate School ($78), Suffolk County math tournament ($250) and the Woodhull Intermediate School science club advisor stipend ($350).
Thomas Ehlers was appointed head custodian at Jefferson Primary School, effective Feb. 12. He replaces Donald Prisco who retired.
Retired nurses Marlene McKenna, Rita Barry, Emily Holligan, Judy Maier and Pat Forde were appointed to work part-time during kindergarten registration sessions during March and May.
The School Board approved the retirement of Finley secretary Helen Barbuzza, effective June 27.
Southdown Primary School secretary Wanda Gonzalez was granted a leave of absence, effective Sept. 3 to Dec. 15, 2008.
Clara Krapf and Lisa Karasik were added to the list on non-instructional substitutes in the district.
A budget transfer requested by Director of Fine and Performing Arts Joan Fretz was approved in the amount of $400. Ms. Fretz said that the “funds are needed to support staff training and a student field trip presentation (in house) to integrate the field of medical illustration into the fine arts curriculum, as part of the existing drawing and painting program.”
