Spirit Runs High at Jefferson Primary School
Jefferson Primary School students showed off their spirit all last week as specially themed days saw the youngsters donning a variety of clothing items, participating in contests and engaging in Super Bowl football activities in the gym.
Kindergarten and first grade students created sportsmanship themed posters supporting their favorite Super Bowl football teams in one of the week’s most exciting contests. Second and third graders participated in a creative writing contest that that had them penning short stories on what it would be like if they were the football used in the Super Bowl. Teachers were amazed at how imaginative the stories turned out.
A third contest required students to guess the number of squishy mini-footballs contained in a large jar. Physical education teachers Karen Fischer and Lynn Hefele devoted the week to football themed activity and skill stations that the youngsters rotated through in the gym.
The week also saw students wearing their favorite team’s colors one day and hats and sunglasses the next. Another day was devoted to wearing shirts that contained a message that others had to read. “Crazy Sock Day” had the youngsters wearing mismatched or colorful socks. Some students just rolled up their pants legs enough to let others see their socks!
The last day of the fun week resulted in students making sure they spotted “Pete the Polar Bear” who was outfitted in Giants garb. He was originally scheduled to hangout in a courtyard tree, waving a Giants flag, but torrential rain forced him to move inside.
