Blue Devil JV Boys’ Basketball Looks for Strong Finish

The Huntington junior varsity boys’ basketball team recently split a pair of exciting games as the season heads for its finish.  The Blue Devils have been competitive all winter under rookie coach Jimmy Creighton.

Huntington turned back Rocky Point, 54-51, behind a strong effort from Jeremy Rhodes, who scored 22 points and pulled down 10 rebounds.  Tom Grossman added 13 points along with six steals.  The Blue Devils also received offensive support from Jamal Brown (seven points), Dan Smith (7), Shea Sair (2), Davon White (2) and Jeff Conte (1).

Sair tied the game with a fast break lay-up with about a minute to play.  Conte then nailed a free throw to give Huntington the lead for good.  “It was a good defensive effort,” Creighton said.

The Blue Devils came back to Earth when they were nipped by Sayville, 60-59.  The game was a rematch of an earlier contest that saw the Golden Flashes defeat Huntington by a handsome margin.  This time Brown led the men in the blue with 15 points on five three-pointers.  Grossman contributed a dozen points and five steals.  Rhodes (10 points), White (8), Sair (6), Thomas Thurmond (6) and Robert Hughes (2) added offense.

“It was s see-saw battle and we came up short at the end,” Creighton said.  “I was proud of the effort my guys put into this game, although we lost.”
