School District to Join Town in Paper Recycling Program

It’s an offer the Huntington School District just can’t refuse.  The Town of Huntington is willing to provide a no-cost paper recycling program, picking up the material once a week from a central location in the district.

“Paper recycling programs can be set up and run in several different ways, depending on the age of the students and activities in the school,” wrote Supervisor Frank P. Petrone and Councilman Stuart P. Besen in a letter to Superintendent John J. Finello.

“We plan to participate in this program” Mr. Finello said.  Assistant Superintendent David H. Grackin and Director of Facilities Paul Rispoli are working out the details so the program will be available in all eight buildings in the district.

“There is no limit to the number of buildings that can participate in the program, however, the district must select one building as the central location point for Town vehicles to collect from,” according to the town officials.  “If your district’s high school is participating, this is usually the best choice.”

Typically, plastic collection bins are placed in classrooms and offices and the bins are emptied into clear plastic bags.  Teachers can use the program to provide instruction about the environment, renewable resources and reducing waste.
