Huntington School Board Establishes Annual Goals
Huntington School Board members spent about two hours discussing district needs at their meeting on Mon. Aug. 4 and then set seven goals for the body for the coming school year.
Trustees took turns discussing the current state of affairs across the district and then determined the need for specific goals. School Board President Bill Dwyer expressed a preference for goals that were both “measurable” and “attainable.” Setting such goals is an annual practice but trustees seemed to put even more emphasis on them this year.
The adopted goals for 2008/09 include:
- Establish an ongoing dialogue between the Town of Huntington and the Board of Education and administration to more effectively allow us to address the various town-related issues that impact our school district.
- Develop a schedule whereby the principals and directors will report to the Board of Education at least once a year on academic progress within their school or discipline.
- Encourage and make available technology to facilitate electronic communication between teachers and parents.
- Develop a plan to respond to public commentary, with an appropriate response, whether it is a statement of fact or existing board policy, or an intention to place an item on the agenda for discussion at a future meeting.
- Develop a concrete plan to address the critical issues regarding space in all schools.
- Proactively work toward developing a school budget for 2009-2010 with a 4% expenditure cap.
- Continue to actively support the ongoing efforts in education for nutrition, health and wellness within our school district.
