Huntington School Board Notes
Huntington School Board members appointed Stephen Henry (physical education) and Kathleen McCourt (special education) to serve as Huntington High School coordinators during the 2008/09 school year.
Trustees approved a third section of Earth Science 8 at J. Taylor Finley Middle School. This is an advanced course that includes classroom lecture and lab sessions. The extra section was added as a result of heightened student interest. Judy Pazienza will be teaching the new section and lab.
Dr. Kenneth Card was appointed to serve as director of the adult and continuing education program. He is also the principal of Woodhull Intermediate School.
Trustees approved two summer curriculum projects, including one for social studies skills articulation for grades 5-11 and another that focuses on the district’s dual language program. Trustees authorized the equivalent of five teacher days at $200 per day for the social studies project and 28 teacher days at the same $200 per diem rate for the dual language work, which will be covered by a grant.
Part-time teacher appointments were approved for Deidre Mayer (.6 foreign language, Huntington High School), Julie Wright (.6 art, J. Taylor Finley Middle School), Allison Collins (.6 English), Stephon Sair (.8 physical education) and Linda Kohan (.6 social worker).
Long-term substitute teacher appointments were approved for the entire 2008/09 school year for Akira Byng (music, Woodhull Intermediate School), Nancy Giorgios (reading, Washington Primary School), Chelsea Jablon (music, Huntington Intermediate School) and Carlo Maltempi (science, Huntington High School).
Retired principal Jack Abrams was reappointed as curator of Huntington’s School Heritage Museum, which is located in room 140 at Huntington High School. For more information or to arrange a tour call Mr. Abrams at 673-2048.
Trustees authorized Jack Abrams, Anthony Barresi, Lois Markland, Jon Rothfeld and Peter Sepez to work as per diem substitute administrators during the 2008/09 school year. They will be paid $350 for each day they work.
ESL summer program staff members have been appointed, including Claudia Mingin, Kimberly Murray, Silvia Gilbert, Wilson Douce, Donnamarie O’Shaughnessy, David Crimi and Arlette Hall-Connolly. Maria Lanzot and Luz Marotta were authorized to work as substitutes on an as needed basis. The program will run from August 4-22. It is funded by a Title III grant.
Brian Stellato, Jason Giachetti, Michael Marchenna, Amy Gagnon, Eugene Bennett, Frank Battista, Simon MacVicar, Noel Borden, Susan Hahn, Timothy Caskin have been appointed as Huntington Blue Devil marching band instructors for the summer and fall program seasons. Mr. Stellato will serve as marching band director and Mr. Giachetti will be the assistant director. The others will fill a variety of band and color guard positions.
Nancy Burke-Allard has been appointed part-time to the position of consolidated grant coordinator K-12/K-6 data coordinator for the 2008/09 school year.
Marybeth Robinette has been appointed 7-12 data coordinator/backup chief information officer for the 2008/09 school year.
