Teplin Wins Medals at Regional Gymnastics Championship
Huntington High School sophomore Zach Teplin enjoyed his best showing ever at the USA Gymnastics regional championship in Pennsylvania, winning gold medals in vault and high bar and bronze medals in pommel horse and floor exercise.
Teplin, who practices and competes with Gold Medal Gymnastics on Pulaski Road, captured fourth place all-around out of 35 gymnasts representing seven states at the championships in the 15-year old and up division. He's been to the regional meet three times and his best previous finish was one bronze medal. “So this was quite a meet and quite a finish for the season,” his father Mike Teplin said.
Teplin’s overall regional score of 70.5 was 1.2 points higher than his performance at the New York State Championships at West Point in March.
The competition at the regional championships was fierce as the first and second place finishers are members of the National Elite Team Gatica which competes with NCAA college teams. The tough competition made Teplin’s fine finish taste even sweeter.
