Finley 8th Grade Girls’ Basketball Finishes 2-10
The J. Taylor Finley Middle School eighth grade girls’ basketball team finished its season with a 2-10 record under veteran coach Phil Lowe.
Lowe said it was a “young team that learned to play together as the season progressed. The team learned a little about the game of basketball with respect to situation recognition and game-time adjustments. The team was a very enjoyable group of hard working young ladies who always had a smile of their faces regardless of the outcome.”
The coach offered up pithy statements about his top players, including Laurelle Byrne-Cody (“good dribbler, shoots from 10 feet consistently, can penetrate the lane”), Molly Arceri (“very aggressive on defense, tough rebounder, good passer”), Andrada Saitoc (“very athletic, quick hands and feet, can finish in traffic”), Haley Brown (“good rebounder, can shoot 8-10 feet away, good defender and passer”), Colleen Wright (“super competitor, rebounds, dives on floors, can shoot 8-10 feet away, can change the course of games, the team’s leader”), Jillian Kocis (“tough defender, rebounds well and can pass”), Jennifer Duffy (“good penetrator and passer, floor leader, creates on offense, very good on defense, quick hands and feet”), Lidia Aparicio (“good rebounder, tough defender”) and Madison Biernacki (“excellent defender, quick hands and feet,”).
Next year’s Finley 8th grade squad could be a formidable one. “The seventh grade team was loaded with talent, both in the backcourt and the frontcourt,” Lowe said. “They are a very hard working group that can play up-tempo ball.”
