Induction Swells Huntington Art Honor Society Ranks

The Huntington High School art honor society saw its ranks nearly double with the recent induction of ten new members during an upbeat evening that featured traditional candle lighting and a knighting ceremony.

The new inductees include Sarah Cohn, Christine Corcoran, Asmita Das, Natalie Hartmann, Maya Horton, Dillon Lockwood, Kristy Lyons, Ava Nicoletto, Allie Thompson and Matt West.  They join current members Kat Beavers (president), Eva Valerio (vice president), Jiordan Castle (treasurer), Kristen Reardon (secretary), Daniele Siele (art gallery curator), Samantha LoBue (public relations), Darlose Francisque-Cheriel, Ginny Johnson, Alexandra Kimchy, Kelsey Kunes and Liz Mormile.

Faculty advisor Ayallah Jeddah began the festivities with touching and inspiring words of welcome followed by brief remarks from each of the society’s officers about how much they appreciate the wide variety of special learning opportunities they have as Huntington art students.

The new members each read a quote from a famous artist as they were inducted into the society.  This year’s induction was held in the school cafeteria in the space adjacent to the new student art gallery.  Each inductee contributed a piece of art work for exhibition during the event.  Parents and other family members said they considered it a “wonderful treat” to be able to see and appreciate the creative talents on these young artists in a professional gallery setting.

Joan Fretz, district director of fine and performing arts told members of the society that "no matter what careers you may pursue in the future, your creative artistic abilities will serve you well.  In this 21st century, businesses are looking for employees who are creative problem solvers, who have vision and can ‘think out of the box.’  These are all skills you are developing as young artists."

In helping close this year’s induction ceremony Mrs. Fretz listed the numerous recent awards Huntington High School art students have received this spring at various Long Island contests.  "Huntington High School has a well deserved reputation for extraordinary art work in a great variety of media,” she said.  “I thank all of our students and their talented teachers for representing us so well."
