Huntington Sports Briefs
The Huntington girls’ softball team picked up a 9-6 victory over Comsewogue behind the dazzling pitching of junior Jenna Feraco, who struck out 10. Huntington trailed 5-4 until sophomore Chloe Gray’s two-run seventh inning single put the Blue Devils in the lead, 6-5.
Power hitting helped the Huntington baseball team coast to a 12-0 victory over Comsewogue. Dan Teplin, Anthony Fasciano, Dan Goldstein and Mike Faulter each hit round trippers. Goldstein and Christian Calderaro turned in outstanding pitching efforts.
The Blue Devil boys’ junior varsity tennis team shut-out Shoreham-Wading River, 7-0. Andrew Neter coasted in first singles, 6-2, 6-2 and Justin Greenidge won in No. 2, 6-4, 6-3. Tom Monks took third singles, 6-4, 7-6 (7-2) and Peter Wagner won a third set tiebreaker, 7-2 after splitting the first two sets in fourth singles, 7-6 (8-6), 4-6.
In first doubles, Matt Rubin and Everett Coraor rolled 6-2, 6-3. Taylor Fritts and Dan Rabinowitz were impressive in second doubles, winning 6-2, 6-1 and Mike Valente and Tyler Moore were almost perfect in taking third doubles, 6-1, 6-0.
The Huntington boys’ lacrosse team turned back Bayport-Blue Point, 6-4 behind four goals from junior Stephen Mock, Jr. The Blue Devils led at halftime, 3-1. Junior Kevin Bilzi scored with less than 15 seconds remaining in the third quarter to give Huntington a two goal lead, 5-3. Senior Mark Salerno stopped 18 shots in goal.
Senior Mike Faulter turned in a strong pitching performance to lead the Huntington baseball team over Comsewogue, 5-4. Faulter fanned eight and didn’t walk anyone in hurling a six-hitter. Junior Joe Rielly drove in four runs.
Iona-bound senior Casey Scully scored four goals to lead the Huntington girls’ lacrosse team over Westhampton Beach, 19-7. Matte Scully added three goals and Allie Thompson contributed a goal and four assists. Angela Bosco and Karly Koics combined to make ten saves in goal.
The Huntington JV boys’ tennis team turned back Hauppauge, 6-1. Huntington won three of four singles matches and swept all three doubles contest. In first singles, Andrew Netter won in three sets, 6-7 (5-7), 6-3, 6-1. Justin Greenidge (6-4, 6-4) and Peter Wagner (6-4, 6-1) captured second and fourth singles, respectively.
In doubles play, Taylor Fritts and Matt Rubin (6-2, 5-7, 6-4), Dan Rabinowitz and Cole Peters (6-2, 6-2) and Mike Valente and Dan Andree (6-1, 6-1) shined.
Junior Nick Sammartano was masterful in hurling a four hitter as the Huntington baseball team completed a three game sweep of Comsewogue with a 2-1 victory at home. Mike Faulter drove in what proved to be the winning run with a bases-loaded two-run single in the bottom of the sixth inning. Joe Rielly came out of the bullpen to pick up the save.
Matte Scully scored four goals but it wasn’t enough as the Huntington girls’ lacrosse team fell to North Babylon, 19-12. Angela Bosco added three goals and Casey Scully and Allie Thompson each scored twice, respectively. Thompson also contributed three assists.
