Blue Devil Boys’ Track Makes Winning a Habit
It was a day to remember for the Huntington boys’ track and field team, which enjoyed a clean sweep of every sprint, distance, relay and field event in toppling Comsewogue, 107-24.
Chris Glaser (110m high hurdles, 400 IH), Emmanuel Dume (long jump), Walter Stephens (high jump, triple jump), Fritz Barreau (shot put), Eddie Santos (discus), Brian Cotter (800m, 1600m), Josh Daves (100m, 200m) and Stevens Merilan (400m) each won their respective events.
The 4 x 400m relay team of Stevenson Gabriel, Eric Szilagy, Dylan Payne and Sharif Jarvis and the 4 x 100m team of Daves, Dume, Jake Gayle and Quillian Respass also streaked to victories.
Gayle (long jump, 200m, 400m), Szilagy (triple jump, 1600m), Merilan (high jump), Santos (shot put), Barreau (discus) Hector Vega (110 HH) and Respass (100m) took second place in their respective events. Daves (long jump), Vega (400 IH), Gabriel (800m), Dume (100m) and David Acton (400m) added third place finishes.
“We look to make improvements at each meet,” head coach Ron Wilson said. Dume made the biggest improvement of all. The senior out jumped teammate Suffolk winter track champion Josh Daves, in the long jump, leaping 20’10.5.
