The Huntington School District will continue utilizing a portable speed machine provided by the Town of Huntington that can be set up near schools to alert motorists to how fast they are traveling.  The program is part of “an effort to improve traffic calming procedures within school zones, cross walks, parking lots and public events,” according to a Town Board resolution.  The machine is loaned to the district for use.

Trustees authorized budget transfers from one account to account to cover expenses connected with new math textbooks, this year’s marching band show, software for new faculty recruitment and copier costs.

Trustees approved the appointment of Marie Toscano as a long-term leave replacement English teacher at Huntington High School.  She graduated from St. Joseph’s College in 1999 and obtained a Master’s degree at Hofstra University in 2001.

Ms. Toscano will replace a tenured teacher who is out on a child care leave of absence through June 30, 2008.  Prior to coming to the district, Ms. Toscano has been teaching at Holy Trinity High School in Hicksville since September 2000.  She has also worked as a part-time English teacher at the Kings Park Alternative Learning Center.

Prior to coming to Huntington, Ms. Gallo has worked as a school psychologist in the Township of Union (NJ) Public Schools since September 2003.  She will be eligible for tenure on September 1, 2010.
