Speech Therapists Appointed by School Trustees
Huntington School Board members brought the district’s corps of speech therapists up to full strength by hiring Jacqueline Leonard and Risa Brachman to fill in for faculty members who are out on leaves of absence.
Ms. Leonard, who was given a full-year appointment, will work at Woodhull and Huntington Intermediate schools. She earned her B.A. and M.A. degrees at Hofstra University in speech pathology and speech and hearing. She has previously worked in the Carle Place, Baldwin and South Huntington school districts and has served as a leave replacement in Huntington since January 2006.
Ms. Brachman will work at Flower Hill Primary School through approximately January 25, 2008. She holds a B.A. degree from the University of Arizona in speech and hearing science and earned a Master’s degree at New York University in speech-language pathology.
Prior to her current appointment Ms. Brachman has worked as a speech therapist at the Long Island Infant Developmental Program in Merrick, at P.S. 140 and JHS 60 in New York City, at United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Suffolk County and at the Commack Center for Speech and Hearing. She was also previously employed by the Huntington School District from October 1997 to November 2001 as a speech therapist.
