Blue Devil Marching Band Wins Again
The Blue Devil marching band is off to a perfect start this fall after winning its second consecutive competitive show, this time at Brentwood. Huntington scored 80.4 points, a full seven points higher than the previous week.
This year, the Blue Devils are competing in the Large School Division II of the New York State Field Band Conference. “There are no other Long Island bands in this division, so our competition is all Upstate,” said Joan R. Fretz, district director of fine and performing arts.
“Upon checking the statewide scores for all bands in our division this [past] weekend, we were excited to discover that the Huntington band scored 2.5 points higher than any other band in our division in the state,” Ms. Fretz said. “This is a good indication that the show and our students' performances are being well received by the judges.”
The Blue Devils are led by band directors Jason Giachetti and Brian Stellato. The seven-point improvement over the span of a week is “a jump that is unheard of,” according to Ms. Fretz. The band will perform this weekend at the annual Huntington High School Homecoming festivities.
