Huntington Parents Go Back to High School
Hundreds of Huntington parents went back to high school as what can only be described as a throng descended upon Huntington High School for its annual Meet the Teacher night.
Parents toured the building, which has seen many renovations over the past few years, including work completed in hallways, classrooms, the auditorium and the gym. Although nearing its 50th anniversary, Huntington High School has never looked better, according to many recent visitors.
Teachers excitedly showed off their rooms and described course curriculums and requirements. Parents followed the schedules of their child and had an opportunity to become more familiar with the expectations of teachers and gain a taste of what their son or daughter experiences each day.
“We had a very successful Meet the Teacher night,” Principal Carmela Leonardi said. “A large number of parents stopped me to tell me how impressed they were with all the teachers and how challenging the courses are.”
The school’s College Counseling Center was also open for inspection and counselor Bernadette Walsh was on hand to review the services she offers to students and parents. Faculty and staff were animated in discussing their plans for the year and how happy they are to be working with what they consider to be an excellent group of students.
The building sparkled as parents looked over science labs, the School Heritage Museum, art studios, gym facilities and every other space utilized by students. Parents came armed with plenty of questions and teachers did their best to answer every single one.
“Everyone seemed very pleased,” Dr. Leonardi said.
