Blue Devils Earned this Win the Hard Way

The Huntington football team rebounded from an opening day loss to Hills West and held off late charging East Hampton, 20-17.  The victory evened the Blue Devils record at 1-1 and provided the squad with a much-needed boost in confidence.

The two hour bus trip to East Hampton left Huntington’s offense unable to put any first half points on the scoreboard.  After a scoreless first quarter, the Bonackers struck in the second frame and led at the half, 7-0.

The Blue Devils finally got untracked in the third quarter as fullback Eddie Santos scored a pair of touchdowns on a 40-yard run and a two yard plunge. Ahead 13-10 in the fourth quarter, Dashaun Thomas capped off another drive by carrying the ball three yards into the end zone to give Huntington a 20-10 with about six minutes remaining.

East Hampton (1-1) struck back with a successful scoring drive that brought them to within three points at 20-17.  An onside kick was recovered by the Blue Devils, which then ran out the clock to preserve the team’s first win of the 2007 season.

Huntington’s ground game proved formidable with Santos carrying 20 times for 146 yards and Thomas taking the ball 14 times for 90 yards.  Place kicker Paul Aramanda converted two extra points.
