Blue Devil Boys’ Soccer Keeps Rolling Right Along
The Huntington boys’ soccer team improved to 3-0 with victories over Westhampton Beach (1-0) and Kings Park (2-1). The Blue Devils are winning behind an opportunistic offense, stingy defense and solid goaltending.
Huntington and Westhampton Beach were scoreless until the 65th minute of the game when Stevens Merilan finally put the ball in the net after being fed a slick pass from teammate Nick DiPaola. The Blue Devil defense made the goal stand up as Kyle Wasarhaley stopped five shots in goal.
Huntington jumped out to a 2-0 lead against Kings Park and then held on for the win. Baxter Olson scored the game’s first goal off a pass from Matt Scott. Toward the end of the first half, Scott found DiPaola, who fired in what eventually proved to be the game winner. Marcelo Guardado had two saves in goal for the Blue Devils.
