Woodhull Remembers Terror and Heroism of 9/11
Students and staff at Woodhull Intermediate School took time out on September 11 to remember the terrorist attacks which took place on that day in 2001 and to pay tribute to the acts of heroism and sacrifice which were demonstrated in New York City, rural Pennsylvania and Washington, DC.
Inclement weather forced this year’s Woodhull ceremony indoors. “The students remained in their classrooms and we did our tribute via the PA system,” Woodhull Principal Kenneth Card said. Physical education teachers Maryann Sacher and Michael Marinello coordinated the tribute.
“Mr. Marinello read a brief statement that asked all the students and staff to remember the sacrifices of the fallen heroes of 9/11,” Dr. Card said. “The statement was followed by a trumpet solo of the National Anthem by Peter Deschler, our band teacher. A student read a poem written by Ms. Sacher and "God Bless America" was song lead by our chorus teacher, Akira Reagan.”
Ceremonies of one kind or another were held across the Huntington School District as students and staff continue to keep the memory of 9/11 alive.
