This Year's Huntington Football in a Rebuilding Mode

One season removed from an appearance in the Suffolk Division III final, the Huntington football team is a very different squad this fall as the coaching staff attempts to rebuild the Blue Devil program.  That inexperience showed last Saturday as Half Hollow Hills West roared to a 28-0 victory in the opening game for both teams.

Huntington never mounted much offense, despite several plays that raised the hopes of about 600 fans that turned out for the first regular season home game at the new Blue Devil Stadium.  The teams battled to a scoreless first quarter, but it was all Hills West after that, as the Colts bolted to a 14-0 halftime lead.

Hills West running back Jaquan Carter was nearly unstoppable, scoring four touchdowns, rushing for 105 yards and hauling in passes for another 98.  Colt quarterback Davis DiMaria was hot, too, completing 8-of-9 passes.

“We just aren’t there yet,” Huntington head coach Steve Muller said.  “We have a lot of new faces and we graduated some of our best players ever.  It’s going to take time for us to rebuild.”
