Huntington Booster Club Golf Outing to Honor Charlie Forte, Sr.

Charlie Forte, Sr., one of Huntington High School’s all-time athletic greats, will be honored by the Huntington Booster Club at the group’s first annual golf outing on Weds. Oct. 17 at the Crab Meadow Golf Course overlooking the Long Island Sound.  Registration for the event is now underway.

A 1956 Huntington graduate, Mr. Forte earned All-County honors for the Blue Devil football, basketball and baseball teams.  He went on to star on the Wake Forest University basketball and baseball teams and advanced into the professional ranks with the New York Mets organization.

His baseball career cut short by a stint in the U.S. Army and later an injury, Mr. Forte turned to teaching, returning to Huntington in 1963.  He also coached varsity basketball and golf for the Blue Devils.  In 1971 he joined Posillico, Inc., a Long Island construction company giant, where he continues to serve today as senior vice-president.

The Booster Club golf outing will begin with check-in, lunch and practice on the driving range between 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. when a shotgun start will kick-off the golf action.  A dinner is slated for 6:30 p.m. in the clubhouse.  The fee for individual golfers is $175. (Foursome - $700) Those wishing to attend only the dinner can do so for $85.

A variety of special prizes and awards will be presented, including longest drive, nearest to the pin and hole-in-one.  Proceeds from the day will go toward the Booster Club’s efforts to provide annual scholarships, purchase equipment, support summer camps and refreshments at athletic events and sports awards nights.

Numerous golf outing sponsorship opportunities exist ranging from the $5,000 varsity dinner sponsor to $125 tee and green sponsors.  Journal ads are also being sold.
